Vidyashilp School Banashankari Students Embrace Outdoor Learning With Enthusiasm!

Following the footsteps of their Bagalur branch peers, students from Vidyashilp School’s Banashankari branch joined us for their Outdoor Leadership Programme and their first outdoor school trip in Kodaikanal.

Right from the start, the activities were designed to push boundaries and support collaboration and team work among the students. A standout exercise involved students learning how to pitch a tent without a single word being spoken — only mime. As they navigated the task, teamwork emerged naturally.

Students were seen helping not just their own groups but reaching out to assist others. This breaking of boundaries continued throughout the trek, as many went beyond their friend circles to interact and collaborate with new friends.

The night brought another beautiful moment of learning. During a stargazing session, the students gazed at the endless sky and reflected on the vastness of the universe. Realizing that stars had been born before they were, and would continue to exist long after, brought a deep sense of wonder and humility. For many, this was an enormous takeaway — a reminder of their place in the grand scheme of things.

Throughout the trek and nature walk, the students were exposed to the beauty of natural elements, proudly soaking in knowledge about their surroundings. They began to recognize the sharp contrast between the city's hustle and the serenity of nature. Three days of being outdoors transformed them. They overcame their fears and grew increasingly comfortable within nature's embrace.

One aspect that stood out strongly was the sheer joy of digital detox. Being cut off from their devices allowed the students to genuinely connect with each other and their environment. They expressed immense happiness over this much-needed break from the digital world.

The sense of community among the group was most apparent when one girl hurt her leg. Without hesitation, her fellow students rallied around her, bringing her food, assisting her, and ensuring she felt supported. Such moments of empathy and kindness defined their outdoor experience.

This trip was a journey of growth, resilience, and discovery. The students of Vidyashilp School Banashankari have returned with stories to tell, lessons learned, and a deeper connection to nature. We can’t wait to see how these young adventurers carry forward their newfound wisdom into their everyday lives.
